Can Pediatricians pierce ears?
Yes, while not all Pediatricians offer it, they can pierce ears. At Pediatric Associates of Frisco, we use the Blomdhal Medical Ear-Piercing System. It is designed to prevent contact dermatitis and other complications that can arise when ears are pierced. Using modern technology, it is very safe for your children. However, a child must have their vaccines up to date before their ears will be pierced at our clinic.
What age is best to pierce babies’ ears?
While the ears of a baby can be pierced as early as 12 days old, most experts recommend waiting until a child is old enough to take care of their pierced ear. Parents should carefully consider if their child can adequately care for it, to prevent possible complications and infections.
Where should I get my baby’s ears pierced?
If you want your baby’s ear pierced, you should come to our clinic where it can be done by a medical professional. Many locations in the Frisco area do not perform ear piercings on babies.
Is it bad to pierce baby ears?
From a health perspective, it is very safe to pierce their ears. Whether or not you should, is something you will have to decide. In many cases, a baby does not have the coordination to reach up and pull at their ears. However, you should monitor them closely after the piercing to ensure they do not pull them out.
Are earrings safe for babies?
Earrings are safe for babies; however, take care to avoid any earrings that have loops or sharp ends for their safety.
What age can I get a child’s ears pierced?
Many parents wait until their child’s first birthday to pierce their ears.
How would I know if my baby has an ear infection?
Fever is a common symptom of an ear infection, although it is not always present. Trouble hearing, sleeping ear tugging, change in appetite, vomiting, and diarrhea are also symptoms that can indicate an ear infection. For many children, they are usually more fussy than usual and clingy. At the area around the ear piercing, look for any swelling, puss, or redness that may indicate signs of an infection. In the days after your visit to our clinic, be sure to keep this area clean.
